What hostels should I book in Australia?
I’m gonna go through hostels along the east coast that I stayed in and some that I’ve heard good things about. It can be difficult to choose because there’s so many ranging from different prices. When I was in Australia hostels ranged between $15-$30. By the time I left the prices had gone up a lot so I’m not 100% on prices there at the moment.
Melbourne
I started my trip in Melbourne and stayed in the YHA Metro which is now closed permanently. I had high expectations for YHA but this one was disappointing. There is another YHA Melbourne central and this one looks good! I’ve heard good things and it seems to have good reviews. (Prices were included in tour fees)
I stayed in the Space hotel for my last night in Melbourne. I got a private room which was like a dream. I had a balcony with the most amazing view of the city. Would definitely recommend this one! Private room costs $80.
Great Ocean Road
On the way to the great ocean road we stayed in Halls gap YHA for one night. This hostel is beautiful, surrounded by wildlife and nature. It’s a very spacious hostel which is rare.
For night number 2 we stayed in YHA Port fairy. This hostel was very clean and the staff were lovely!
(I done a tour of the great ocean road so hostel prices were included in the tour fee)
Sydney
I stayed in the YHA harbour and this hostel deserves the 5 stars that it has. The views from the rooftop are breathtaking, the hostel itself is very spacious but the room I was in was small enough. This was ranged from $20-$30.
Byron Bay
We stayed in Wake up and its up there with one of my favourite hostels! It’s located right on the beach and the hostel itself is very spacious. The rooms are very tidy and the staff are lovely. I stayed in a private room and a regular room here as I was ill. The private room was around $120 a night which is steep! Regular rooms were priced around $25 a night.
Gold Coast
Next up was Budds in surfers paradise. I stayed in this hostel for 3 nights and met great people! It was very social with quiz nights, bingo and free barbecue’s. The hostel was clean and I can’t fault it. Price ranged from $15-$20.
Brisbane
This one was small! Brisbane quarters is central but very claustrophobic in my opinion. I stayed in a four bed on the top bunk and had to sleep with my backpack on the bed with me as there was no floor space at all. The common areas were tidy but my room wasn’t, I wouldn’t return. Price ranged from $20-$30.
Noosa
This was the wildest one I stayed in, Nomads noosa has a bar that anyone can go into with different themes for each night. The whole time I was In noosa it rained. I ended up staying for a week but I had the best week ever. Met some amazing people and the staff were the best. Price ranged from $15-$20.
Rainbow beach
We stayed in Freedom backpackers for one night. The only reason most people go to rainbow beach is because that’s where you go to Fraser Island. The hostel was very tidy and spacious. Price ranged from $10-$20.
Cairns
I stayed in Bounce Cairns for just under 2 months. It’s a very social hostel filled with great people. They have entertainment on throughout the week which gives people the chance to socialise. As I was there so long I paid rent weekly which was $170.
All of the above links will direct you to booking.com but you can also use Hostel world to book accommodation. I downloaded the app which was easy to use and handy to keep track of stays.
